What if there are phenomena possible in this Universe, in which one needs to believe first, in order to understand/observe rather than understand/observe in order to believe?

Science deals with things that one could believe in, once the phenomenon is understood or observed, not the other way round. What if there are phenomena out there that one needs to believe in, before they could be understood or observed? I know it sounds rather odd, but sometimes I get curious along these lines.

Now a more involved question follows: What if there is a proof for existence of such phenomena, but the proof itself needs to be first believed in, for actual understanding?

I know that I am treating the concept of "belief" in an absurd way, but for some reason, the question still seems to make sense to me.

tynamite's avatar Yes. It's called having faith in God.

To everyone who would dispute this, or say I could have answered with something else
There is a theory that says that everything in this world makes logical coherent sense, and if it doesn't, it's only because we don't understand how it works.
Subatomic particles, consciousness, the subjective world, senses, all things we don't understand, all fall under that rule. Who's to argue that there's no logic to it, and that it "just does", when our understanding of science is primitive and disrupted every 20 years?

The only thing you can't ever understand before you die, is God, so the answer can only be having faith in God. Everything else can be explained, we just don't know how. Nothing "just does" in this world, nothing is "just because".

There is a coherent explanation to everything in this universe. You would have to believe in God first, if you ever hope to find the answers. It's the best chance you've got. Believe, and you shall seek.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
