Is internet advertising targeting really bad? If not how come this web site knows my age and just served me an ad for Depends Briefs?

I don't fit the demographic for adult diapers, based on my age, maybe if I were several decades older, but not now. Does the internet know something that I don't?

tynamite's avatar No. Using behavioural targeting in order to build a demographic of a person is majorly flawed

Nowadays nearly all online advertising companies that use behvioural targeting share profile data with each other about people, to better build a demographic of the people that use their websites, in order to bring better targeted advertising. They do this in a program called AdChoices. Facebook is not included in this as their adverts don't have behavioural targeting.

Look familiar?

Google and Microsoft participate in this. If you click AdChoices in their banner adverts, you'll see this page.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
