What are good ideas to include in a website for a non-profit that promotes a healthy lifestyle?

I am currently building a website for the local task force of the American Heart Association on a ProBono basis. As I am a developer, not a non-profit content strategy manager, i figured that I would reach out and ask for tips.

So far I am doing the following:
  • Calender of events
  • Blog
  • Links to social channels
  • Contact page
  • Email list opt-in
  • Page on how to get involved (volunteering or donating)

Ideally we can also get user generated content from volunteers to help establish a sense of community. Maybe some stories of survivors? Perhaps health tips? Something that would encourage a healthy lifestyle that decreases chances of getting heart disease.

How can we add value to corporate sponsors by well placed ads or other perks? What type of organizations, services, products would be a good fit to partner with?

Any tips would be hugely appreciated.

If you're going to break it down feature by feature, you're doing it wrong.
It's all about sharing information on what it is, how people can get involved, and updates on what it does.

My friend is a part of 2 charities, and the only features he has from your list is the social network links, how to get involved, and a contact link.

I would stay away from the user generated content. It's a charity, not a community. The charity speaks for the people, speaking for the voiceless. The charity is the personality.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
