Why do so many users hate Facebook Connect?

  1. Once you use Facebook Connect to login to an external website, you have vendor lock-in, so deleting your Facebook account will delete your right to access to your account on external authorised websites.
  2. Most websites that promote Facebook Connect, do not give a Facebook specific benefit for using Facebook Connect, rather than to signup directly with the website. The most common example is a blog that requires Facebook Connect to post a comment on the blog. Such a website raises privacy concerns among the visitors, as a question is raised as to why there are using Facebook Connect, if they are not ultilising their Facebook friends, Wall, photos or anything by making a comment. This makes one question the integrity of a website, and whether the website is only using Facebook Connect for 3 possible reasons...

  1. The website wants to harvest your likes so they can sell/provide it to advertisers, to provide better advertising. This causes a privacy outcry.
  2. The webmaster wants to spy on your Facebook account.
  3. The webmaster wants to increase their conversion rate. Games are the best example. Online games are the only websites that do well with Facebook Connect, as it makes users think the game is social, so they are likely to signup.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
