Why is it so difficult for humans to solve problems like world hunger, poverty and inequality? We spend over a trillion dollars on military defense, and much of our energy is focused on killing boredom. What does this tell us about our species?

tynamite's avatar I was watching a documentary, and it was about cash crops. I forgot what it's called. It started off in a UK greengrocers, saying that there are certain African countries which are full of starvation. The presenter then asked, Why don't we send these mangos back to xxx, or rice back to xxx? The documentary went onto explain that the people would rather have the money from exporting the food, than to eat it.

I then had to find out after the documentary why the European Union did not send Africa its surplus of food, as the EU pays farmers money to grow too much food, to keep food prices down. I found out that African governments do not want our free food. They find it more important that their citizens grow their own food to get out of poverty themselves, than to accept hand-outs.

Also that some places are corrupt, with the government robbing money off its people, like millions of dollars.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
