Is it becoming more relevant for designers to showcase their work on portfolio sites vs. their personal sites?
Sites like Coroflot, Behance Network, Cargo Collective and many others offer great benefits for designers. At the same time it is easy to lose focus: wonder off to look at other people's work or compare growing creatives to really mature and experienced ones. What are some of the thoughts, strategies, pluses and minuses?

I like Behance as I have illustrators and digital artists following my work, to let me know that I'm good at what I do. The better work I submit, the more and prestigious followers I'll get, so it's like a game of collecting badges.
However, if you're using these sites to get work, you'll be disappointed.
You'll be better off looking for job listings and sending them your portfolio.
By having a portfolio site, you not only show your work, but show it in a way that represents you, and shows off your creative style.
It doesn't matter. As long as you have a place to show clients your work, that's all that matters.
Update
I'm now working freelance getting regular work from Brighton, London, and Coventry. I have not showed any of them my portfolio. Business is about trust, not showing that you're the best.
