What is "Google dorking" and what is the defense against this problem?

Apparently used to hack Yale University servers in August 2011:

tynamite's avatar Google dorking is the act of using Google to find websites that can be hacked. There are certain things you can type into Google to find things you can hack into.

I have an RSS Reader program on my computer that periodically downloads a list of websites that can be easily hacked. It gets its information from RSS feeds of Google Alerts and Bing searches.

I can get information such as...

  • People's CVs
  • Databases stored in plaintext
  • Files containing people's usernames and passwords
  • Order receipts of people who shopped online
  • Vulnerable web servers
  • Financial information of businesses

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
