tynamite's avatar There is no strategic importance of AWS to Amazon. It was made unintentionally, and was only meant to be used internally.

Amazon expands into 3 new product lines every year, and despite this, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos noticed that revenues were falling. Amazon already sold practically everything, Earth's Biggest Selection; so in typical Jeff fashion, he set out to improve Amazon itself. Amazon already had outstanding customer support, so Jeff set out to improve the technology that drove Amazon instead.

He made it into an internal platform so that the hodgepodge of various cumbersome things could communicate information with each other. He noticed that Amazon had a huge and powerful infrastructure for handling lots of information, so he wanted the infrastructure to be improved in such a way so that all the different parts of the Amazon website could talk to each other.

It was time consuming and challenging for the engineers to do. When they completed it, it was going to be scrapped. It was about to be scrapped. Jeff decided to make it into a hosting service, and launch AWS with the claim that you can host your website with the same technology that Amazon uses. Amazon didn't use their AWS when AWS launched.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
