Do you agree with Quora's credit tax, or willyou refuse to show your new questions to topic followers?

tynamite's avatar So basically Quora are coming up with a system to stop people from hoarding points, and to use them if they want to get answers to their questions.

I refuse to waste 50 credits to show my new questions to topic followers, as they have now removed the little enjoyment I did get out of this website.

I liked to follow my 30 topics, as I love to learn about society and design most of all. Now that new questions in those topics aren't coming up in my News Feed at all, none of them are, I am getting much less enjoyment and value from this website. In fact I'm getting very little.

Before I could see new questions in those topics and follow them and answer them, and I hopefully could learn from them or share my knowledge. Now I can't do anything of the sort, as I don't see new questions added in topics I'm following anywhere on my News Feed anymore.

I understand that Quora is concerned about the waning quality of questions on their website, and that this is an attempt to deal with the signal to noise. But they have failed to realise that there are new questions added to this website which are intelligent, today and yesterday that I could have answered, or would loved to have followed.

Right now I am left with two choices.

1/ Browse all the Topics I'm following every month, to look for new questions I can answer, which I can't because they're ordered by recent activity, not creation date. This will also crash IE9 and Opera and slow down Firefox so I'll have to refesh and click "more" 20 more times again.
2/ Go on this website less often, and most likely not go on this website ever again, and only appear here when people comment on my answers.

I'm sure you know which option I picked, the only viable one.

I have a suggestion for you Quora admins, to fix this website, and deal with all those stupid questions that you get, if it is that you have made this feature to deal with the signal to noise. It's a suggestion that Quora would never do, and it's not to go tabula rasa.

If Quora has done this purely to encourage people to post more answers to the website, as eventually they'll need to gain some to Ask To Answer certain people, then that is an even worse reason for implementing such a feature, for reasons so obvious I need not explain here. (Yahoo! Answers can get away with such behaviour of points needed to ask questions, because they don't have a News Feed where people follow topics.)

So now you know why I refuse to show my new questions to topic followers for 50 credits. They implement something that cuts off the best source of finding interesting and obscure questions, and expect people to pay to have that privilge, or have their News Feed filled with what other people are answering/following/upvoting.

Eventually it will get to a point where the people I'm following will get questions off who they're following, and who they're following, and who they're following, as we can't see new questions anymore as myself and many others are not seeing them in their News Feed. I do not want Quora to be a place where the minority decide what goes into the News Feed like some domino track, where people like Yishan Wong manage to magically have questions they originally discovered go into my News Feed, and new questions I would have discovered myself not go into anyone's News Feed.

Now that I'm thinking about it, this also goes against the idealogy of New Media, such as Social Media, which Quora is.

There is so much wrong with this feature. I already didn't want to go on this website again and I'm only here because someone commented on my answer so I looked at the home page where my News Feed was. Now I'm seeing this, Quora will rot in squalor. This is the wrong way to run a website, and right now it's not fit for purpose.

How to fix Quora
If Quora gets more users and more activity, will it get even more uncontrollably addicting?

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
