If corporations were to currently control the U.S. government which would they be?

tynamite's avatar Corporations already do control the US government. Oh the irony of your question!

In America, there is no real democracy. It doesn't matter who you vote for, nothing ever changes. There are no real options, and any option you're presented with isn't presenting you with a real choice, as both political parties are the same. If you think that the Healthcare Senate Bill and Patriot Act wouldn't of happened if the Democrats are elected, you are so wrong.

America is also corrupt, without being totaltarian like Iran or China, but in a way we don't generally associate with corruption, as it's a different kind. Given a choice between what is profitable, and what is ethical, the US government will always choose the profitable option every time. The government does not care about your rights, although you think they do, because they're not like China or Iran. The Healthcare Senate Bill, Patriot Act, Protect IP Act, and other such things that America implements all the time, is about being motivated by money, and not your wellbeing as a person. By having a supposedly democratic government, work against its people, it is corrupt. The fact that freedom of speech is an illusion, as proved by the Occupy Wall Street protest, only makes it worse.

Corporations already control the US government, because they are in cahoots with each other. The corporations collude with the US government to get what they want.

Only in America could you have a system where single men pay more for health insurance than a married couple.
Only in America could you patent living things, which caused all the corn in America to be owned by one company, as it pollinated all the corn plants.
Only in America could milk and cheese not be pure, and instead be synthetic.
Only in America could states grant ISPs exclusive rights to provide internet in their state, creating an artifical monopoly, where those same ISPs provide better deals in nearby states.
Only in America could you have a system where domain names are blocked without prior notice, and the RIAA uses obscene civil damages of file sharers to profit from piracy.
Only in America could you have mass homelessness with entire streets with unoccupied houses, because the government decided to tax only the poor when the credit crunch happened.

Why are all these things happening that put corporate interests above our interests? Because the US is run by corporations.

Did you know that executives of Google actually worked in the White House, by donating them large sums of money, so that they could do that?
Did you know that the only reason why we have the Patriot Act, is because the RIAA/MPAA lobbied governments to introduce such a system, saying that it'll help eradicate child porn because they wanted to trick them, when in fact it'll push it more underground?

You name me another Western/MEDC country where corporate led policies can seep their way into legislation.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
