Are womens' cosmetics price expensive?

I just saw my girlfriend pay $30 for something called loose powder (whatever that is). I said, "Let me see the box."

It read, "Net weight 3/4 oz." (yes, the slash is in the right place)

This product is $3 for 9 oz. I'm missing something, but don't know what. If you knew it costs the manufacture $.50 to make the product, why would you still pay these outrageous prices ($30, in this case)? I don't get it. Is it because I'm a man and can't possibly understand? Please try, if you would be so kind. :)

As a side note, she quickly dismissed my suggestion for buying Wal-Mart branded "loose powder."

Okay, okay, not quite $.50 (just to be fair), but a much healthier (some might say "greedy") markup than other retail products.

tynamite's avatar Cosmetics such as talcum power is expensive, because it's the sort of thing that people would only have to buy not so often, like 1-4 times a year. This is why the manufacturers give them expensive prices - to make up for all the times that you wouldn't have paid it every week/fortnight/month.

Women don't buy the same cosmetics every fortnight or month, so thanks to their expensive prices, you might as well be. It makes perfect sense.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
