No answer about how he worked would be complete without mentioning elevators. It is a great legend that if you ever were in an elevator with him, he would ask you what you work as, and if you worked as the wrong person, he would fire you instantly. He apparently knows the names of everyone who works for him. He fired H&R people from his workplace, so if he asked you and you were one, you would have to lie or he would fire you.
