Why do people retain their culture in a multicultural society?

Wouldn't it make more sense to choose your own culture or no culture at all -- especially in a multicultural society where it would be feasible to do so?

Maybe people retain their culture as a defense against racism or perhaps to make marriage easier?

tynamite's avatar I see this question as two things.

Why do people like to stay stuck in their culture, and not explore other people's?

Not everyone can change culture. There are certain races - naming no names - that are not permitted by their culture to be friends with other races. If they are caught by their parents hanging around people other than their own kind, they will get beat with the belt apparently.

Why do people like to retain the exclusivity of their culture?

1. Certain people - giving no examples - see themselves as superior to other races, because of what race they are.
2. People of different races act differently, and sometimes in a way that others can't relate. Again I'm giving no examples.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
