Does silence mean consent, when being bullied?

If someone tries to bully you and says nasty things to you or about you, why does one have to respond? Isn't silence a more graceful approach?

tynamite's avatar It's not about whether silence means consent or not. Well it is, but that's not how I look at it when being bullied.

To me it's more about whether you have any self-worth for yourself, or whether you don't. If you're in a room full of people saying nasty things, you can say nothing and know that is the best thing for you to do. However when something is going on, and someone is all up in your face and is being rude, you cannot just be passive and take it. In those situations you have to be assertive.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
