Is wisdom overrated?

tynamite's avatar Yes, it is overrated. In our capitalist society that revolves around spending money, wisdom isn't needed.

In our busy Western lives, we are bombarded with memes every day, and more so if we go to where the action is being affluent, seeking success (city centre/work/NYC). Our society revolves on us getting more and more, and worrying about staying afloat with bills, work or whatever impending hassle we continually deal with.

To be a functional, affluent, and successful member of society, we have to be pursue the concept of having more and staying afloat. We can do that by being intelligent, wealthy, being good looking, relatives, or having social skills so you can hustle and talk your way to the top. Not by having wisdom.

It would be nice if wisdom was required or valued in our society, but sadly it isn't.

I dream of a world that is based on the relationships we have with each other, and not money. In such a world, wisdom would be just as precious as being a millionaire or having gold. It would be this way because the people with wisdom would provide a guiding light to others leading the way, and would be more influential than the power of money. The person who invents the first clock would be more respected and powerful than the person who owns and rents the land that the inventor lives in. Unfortunately we do not live in that type of world.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
