How do men decide which women to harass on the street?

This is a sincere question. A number of my female friends tell me that they often experience street heckling and harassment (e.g., catcalls, sexual comments, threatening behavior by drivers when bicycling) while going about their everyday business. However, while there is nothing that obviously distinguishes me from my friends in behavior or appearance I have experienced very little of this kind of problem myself. I am therefore guessing that men are using some low-level selection criteria to decide which women to target for harassment.

I want to make it very clear that I am not blaming the victims here nor suggesting that the onus is on women to change their behavior. No one deserves to be harassed or treated rudely.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
