What are some common faux pas when speaking to black people in America? I'm half white and half black. When talking to black people who don't know I'm black, I sometimes make awkward conversational mistakes. What could those mistakes be?

When speaking to groups of white people, I find when one of them says something awkward, mistaken, or offensive to black people, rarely do the other white people seem to notice the problem there. What sort of a blind spot is this?

Also, I'm half white and half black, but look and sound like a white person. When talking to black people who don't know I'm black, I sometimes make awkward conversational mistakes that are immediately cleared up by the revelation of blackness. What could those mistakes be?

Are you having a laugh? Do you think normal everyday people in general do that? Where do you live? Where you live, it must be racist, My gosh!

My answer is the number 1 answer which should be voted to the very top.

Talking ghetto slang in an attempt to get down with the blacks.

It may sound like a good idea, but black people will feel that you are trying to fit in with their black ways, and that you are unintentionally stereotypical by putting them into a box. Just be yourself.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
