I have an idea to reflect social impacts on websites. I am putting NDAs in place but are there any trappings I should be aware of?

I don't know what country you're from, but if you're from the UK, a patent costs £500 and lasts for 20 years. For each consequtive year, you're required to pay £50 more than you did last year until that 20 years is up. Make sure you research people who help on funding inventions. Inventions are much more likely to be funded than startups (new businesses).

If you get someone to sign an NDA agreement, and don't patent your work, there's nothing stopping someone else from patenting it first in another country, and you'll have no way to legally prove that you patented it first, in the High Court (Europe) or the Supreme Court (America).
