What motivates piracy groups to film/rip movies and upload them to the internet?
I'm talking about the people who get the movie onto the internet in the first place, not people who use filesharing services, sometimes called warez d00dz. It seems like there is serious legal risk and lots of work involved in transcoding, syncing audio, etc. The same goes for developing a crack or getting around copyright protection on a piece of software - a big time investment. Often several independent groups will all put out their own version of a movie immediately when it becomes available.
What is the benefit to the individuals who are investing all this time that makes it so valuable to them to motivate this?

90% of the people who signed up to my PTC site lived in countries with an insufficent minimum wage, and they MEDC (more economically developed countries), such as Romania. The minimum wage there wasn't enough to live on. He was very surprised to learn about the £5.85 UK minimum wage.
The number 1 argument for warez, is that people can't afford to pay for it. To put it more accurately, "If piracy didn't exist, would more people pay for your software?"
In India and Romania, the government is corrupt. If you was to shoot someone with a gun in front of a police man, and give him £1000, he would let you go. Just be sure you're not in the tourist areas so the mainstream media won't hear about it. In Romania, every year there is a "shortage" of money, when the citizens don't blow their money away. The Romanian government is corrupt by conspiring with the mafia who do drugs and extortion.
The Western world in terms of social mobility, the minimum wage, and opportunities is a far cry from the people who live with Eastern values such as India and Romania. If you lived there, which I don't, I live in the UK, you would understand why Romanian adults make money through illegal ways, and why Indians use IT as a way out of their poverty.
And why people form warez "release groups". What countries are those release groups based, and the respective websites where their releases get shared?
