Why do certain kids use the word "like" a ton?

What are the origins of this weird tic?

tynamite's avatar Dumb kids use like because they're not articulate enough to put across what they want to say.
"And I was like so upset that he could do that, like why make my coursework any harder to do?"

Intelligent kids use like to come across as more empathetic, expressive and less blunt with what they want to say.
"So about this video we're doing, like could we like shoot it somewhere off the road? People are starting to stare at us."

It all depends on who you know and talk to.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
