I agree that the colour scheme is done bland, to discourage Yahoo Answers people from coming to this site. Nothing about this design looks fun, does it? I use Yahoo Answers as well, as I get more answers there and quicker answers. The same can't be said about Quora, which makes it discouraging to those kinds of people.
The design of Quora is designed to deter people from this site. The main way that it does that, is force people asking questions for the first time to read their advice, and making it hard for new users to view questions, as they're following nothing.

3. Countless personal advice questions which have nothing to do with society
4. Stupid questions (which can be answered with Google or common sense)
What's an assertion, and what should I type in?
Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)
An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.
Richer people have better health.
The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?
And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
