Is it ethical for a country, to have an industrialist or a politician holding a majority stake in media companies?

It's a conflict of interest. When the government controls the press, they begin to censor things they don't want you to know about, so you end up with "superinjunctions" meaning that the press is forbidden by law to report on certain stories or even state that they are forbidden to state certain stories, and then the news stops telling the truth about crimes or deplorable behaviour, and then you end up with fluff pieces. In Singapore, the press is state regulated, and websites and such need a "license" in order to broadcast to over 100 people. Go at look at at a Singapore politics website, and it'll be full of fluff pieces, nothing that could be seen as damaging to politicians or political parties.

In Europe there's a "right to be forgotten law" that allows members of the public to remove information of them they don't like for "accuracy reasons". Considering how libel and slander laws exist, it's painfully obvious why these laws were implemented - to be abused. People have had web pages about themselves removed despite them being factual and not talking about crimes. It's gotten so bad, even the UK news organisations criticise Google over implementation of new law

The government and the media should be kept seperate, as it is an essential for our democracy. Imagine what the world would be like if The Guardian and The New York Times were forbidden of reporting Edward Snowden's NSA leaks. Even Burlusconi tried to create laws to get bunga bunga parties out of the news.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
