By using a pencil and paper, I can get ideas down quickly, without worrying about transforms and effects. It also allows me to produce better ideas as my imagination is required to determine how something will operate.
It's not about how it looks, it's about which is more helpful for generating ideas before I start designing.

Photoshop for mocking up? I tried that what I have done in Flairbuilder or Balsamiq was much faster than in Photoshop or using a pencil...and much better looking.tynamite

I've used Balsamiq and while I won't dispute that those tools are better looking, and maybe faster; they do not really help me be more creative and productive making layouts.By using a pencil and paper, I can get ideas down quickly, without worrying about transforms and effects. You're better off using a pencil and paper and scanning it in. If not, use Photoshop or Fireworks.
