It is characterised by a frantic drum pattern and 140bpm, and a sub bass.

It's a hard term to define, as its music has little rules, so here's some examples of different types of dubstep you might hear. My examples are the closest to 2step and dub I can get. Listen carefully for the 2step influence in the crazy drums. How many other music genres do you know with drums like these?

Dubstep is a varied music genre, with each artist doing their own take of it. It's one of the few genres where each artist brings a completely new sound.
I'm from the UK so I can correctly answer this question. Most foreigners are mistaken for what dubstep is. Skrillex is not dubstep! The dubstep scene hates him. It's a shame as they're missing out on so many sick tunes.
