Why do some users on Quora care more about grammatical correctness than the content or message of the text?
It's as if a misplaced comma completely destroys their appreciation of what an individual is trying to communicate.
Many people also seem to care more about grammar rules than about politeness to others and tolerance. Do they think that they are solely responsible for forestalling the decline of Western civilization?
Because, as an educated person would know, language use changes and evolves over time. Otherwise we'd still be using "thee", "thou" and "whilst".

I agree with the OP of this question. A question with suggested improvements to grammar that was not upvoted once the changes were accepted, strongly implies that the content of the answer is less important than the grammar.
I do not feel that any of these answers are truly answering the question. You all are talking about how self expression and curating quality and fine tuned answers are great. However you haven't understood that correcting the grammar of an answer and not upvoting it, makes it look like you think the answer is rubbish.
My answer to this question
Because your answer is rubbish. That's why they care about the technicalities so much.
