Is it fair for Quora to make money from our answers?

Quora seems to currently be valued at something approaching $500M. The question answerers, without whom the site would not exist get... er... the owners' thanks for making them rich?

By contrast Wikipedia, another site that relies entirely on user-generated content is not run for the financial profit of a small number of people.

Is there something in it for us? Or are we being taken for a ride?

tynamite's avatar If the allegations are true, that censorship is going on in Quora, then it isn't fair for Quora to profit for our answers, as we would be used in a greater plan that we could have never envisioned and have been conned with wool over our eyes.

Otherwise no. We live in a capitalist society, and businesses that cultivate people can make money.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
