If Quora gets more users and more activity, will it get even more uncontrollably addicting?

tynamite's avatar No, because the quality of questions will decrease. If I ran Quora though, it wouldn't; as I have a proposal that no Quora admin would want to implement.

Most of the questions here are personal survey questions. For questions such as What do Quorans see when they look out of their windows at home?, which have been marked as a featured question (omg), each individual person can answer the question with a unique personal response. The problem with these questions, is that everyone who sees them can provide a unique personal answer to them, so the scrollbar will get really small. The question will never come to a definite end, and it will go on forever! This is not what the Quora admins want to happen to their website. Why doesn't Quora like Polling Questions?

Right now the website is small? We have a mixture of these questions so we don't care. But what about when the website rapidly grows in activity?

Questions like My girlfriend says that she will break up with me unless I stop using Quora because I spend way too much time on here. What should I do?, are fine to be featured questions, as we can collectively agree on a short set of answers that match up with the question. I call these opinionated survey questions.

What will happen as Quora grows, as it already is, is that personal questions will increase, and opinionated questions will decrease in number.

This will happen as nobody is doing anything to stop the amount of personal questions, so Quora will turn to slush, as it will fail at it's own purpose. I thought this was the News At Ten version of Yahoo! Answers.

In the future Quora will have

  • Less opinionated questions, that we can collectively agree on, that have few answers.
  • More personal questions, that each person can give a unique answer to. The page will be as long as eternity.
  • More obvious questions that you could easily get the answer to off Google, but people can't be bothered to do any research.

If you think that those 3 bulleted things happening, makes Quora more addictive, then that is good for you. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. You will be hurt once those sorts of questions are in abundance. Right now we have a mixture, and to suggest we will always have that once Quora becomes common knowledge, is ridiculous.

Quora will get less addicting for some people, and more so for other people.
I would go with less addictive. The only thing that would draw you back is the notifications.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
