Will history remember Quora as the center for intellectualism in the same way as Northumberland is circa-700s?
There are many ways to interpret this question; so, here is one.
We could use the Book of Kells as representative of the earlier time. It was related to a culture on the other side of the isles, and Northumberland had invited monks over to their side. Things did flourish for awhile. But, 793 brought the Vikings.
Can the importance of the northern efforts be compared to those in the south (say, Mediterranean)? Arguable, of course. But, the losses in the Northumberland region are very apparent.
So, now, with the general anti-intellectual nature of the web, does not Quora stand out? As opposed to what? One could tout Quora's potential; but, then, we know that the web is untamed. And, so?
