In India, parents often get their daughters' ears and noses pierced while they are 3 or 4, against their will. Is this a form of child abuse? Are grounds such as tradition, for allowing the use of ornaments, good enough reason?

tynamite's avatar I had an ear piercing when I was a child. It was actually forced upon me. I must have been about 3 or 4 and I put my hand on my earlobe and noticed there was a small hole in it. I asked where it came from and my sister said it was from the ear studs she had or whatever they're called.

It was painless and the hole completely disappeared after 1 year or less so it's not really abuse. Now tongue piercing should be illegal, just use your common sense. Don't listen to Alex comparing it to circumcision. Now for nose piercings, I think that's safe too but don't quote me on that.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
