Why do many African-Americans pursue careers in music?

In my personal travels and experiences across America, I have noticed that a disproportionate (compared to other American ethnicities/races) percentage of black people are trying to "make it" in the ultra-competitive music industry. Barack Obama addressed this once or twice in 2008. Can someone explain this phenomenon and how it developed?

tynamite's avatar People go for the lowest hanging fruit, and if the music industry is what that is, that's what they'll go for to make money. If you add that to the fact that black people are the least educated race of all races *not being racist*, you can see why that's the avenue they choose.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
