Is it better to have a large amount of Twitter followers or fewer followers that are more engaged?

tynamite's avatar Have you ever noticed that the amount of attention you get on Twitter, doesn't directly go up when you get more followers? That gaining 50 new followers doesn't exactly get you more mentions and retweets? Have you then noticed that people with less followers get more attention than you?

Twitter, unlike Facebook, is a place of asymetric relationships, where anyone can follow anyone without requiring that they are followed back. A side effect of this is that you can be talking to people and not be sure that they are actually listening to people. Some people "follow" 2000 people, and some follow 200 people and read every tweet that appears on their timeline.

You don't want to be that person who is talking to a brick wall, or is having their words falling into wasteland, so it's better to have fewer followers who are more engaged. That way, when you have something to say, people will be sure to notice it, and maybe act on it. Twitter will create value for you if you have those sort of followers, rather than more followers. Otherwise Twitter will be a pointless waste of your time.

What's an assertion, and what should I type in?

Compesh is a question and answer (and debate) website, so before you make a debate, you better learn what an assertion is. I suppose you already know what a question is, and that you've typed it in the box. ;)

An assertion, is basically a statement you can make, that is either true or false.

Richer people have better health.

The question for that would be, Do richer people have better health?

And don't forget to make your assertion, match your question.
